Badminton England -  RULES

Your attention is drawn to the following rules of Badminton concerning “speed” of shuttle and continuous play.

Shuttle Testing:

4.4.1     To test a shuttle, use a full underarm stroke which makes contact with the shuttle over the back boundary line.  The shuttle shall be hit at an upward angle and in a direction parallel to the side lines.

4.4.2     A shuttle of correct pace will land not less than 530mm. (21 in.) and not more than 990mm. (39 in.) short of the other boundary line.

(This means that a shuttle of correct speed for a hall should land within 9 in. of either side of the long service line for doubles).

Synthetic Shuttles approved by the League:-

Yonex Mavis 300 Range (300, 350 or 370).

Continuous Play

18.1      Play shall be continuous from the first service until the match is concluded, except as alllowed in Laws 18.2 and 18.3 (these allow for breaks between the second and third games in international matches).

18.4      Under no circumstances shall play be suspended to enable a player to recover his strength or to receive instruction or advice.

There has been an important change to LAW  No. 9.6 regarding setting.

Please note that in a game of 15 points setting will now only take place at 14 - all,

still setting to 3 points.

There is no longer setting at 13 – all
