Ladies Match Report 31/12/04  There is quite a change in the Ladies 4 Division table of the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored league, after the receipt of three outstanding cards involving the Sherpas’ team.  Back in November they beat Waverley 5/1 with Debbie Symes and Sandra Jennings the only visiting pair to win a rubber.  Hayley Kopp won two rubbers for Sherpas as did Liz Firth with both sisters Stephanie and Cheryl Matthews participating in three successful ones.  Later the same Sherpas team accounted for both Andover and
BH Pegasus with 6/0 scores In the same division Andover had earlier lost 5/1 to Beechdown at Winchester Road.  The visitors were forced to concede four rubbers due to injuries.  Kay Carrington and Mo Hudson won the solitary rubber for Andover while Sandra Smith and Lynn Perrini won the only one for Beechdown.

A BH Pegasus team comprising Amanda Marsden/Fiona Tebbutt, Lesley Acheson/Kim Newman and Ling Tan/Anu Davies beat Viking 9/0 in the Ladies 6 Division at the Sports Centre to maintain a 6 point lead in the table.  Their nearest challengers, Beechdown, managed a 5/4 home victory over Waynflete.  Ruth Seward/Andrea Hill won a maximum for the winners supported by one rubber each from Madge Cummings/Karen Southwell and Katie Marlow/Sandra Smith.  Helen Davies/Elizabeth Burville and Kirstie Wykes/Claire Beckett recorded a brace of rubbers each for the visitors

Mens Match Report 31/12/04    Beechdown A, in Mens Division 1, proved too strong for Viking B beating them 9/0.  The victorious team was Peter Seward/Neil Marie, Daniel Harvey/Mick Cummings and Tim Corke/Martin Webb.

In Division 2 Andover Sports C, led by three rubbers from Nick Gladwin/Geriant Griffiths accounted for visitors Beechdown B with a 6/3 scoreline.  Mark Tilston/Robin Boyce supplied two rubbers and Rohan Jackson/Lewis Boughtwood got the sixth. Nick Jones and Tim Williams won two of the three visitor’s rubbers with Bruce Scott/Mark Bayliss getting the other.

A two pair Loddon team made up of Richard Burt/Mark Gentry and Matthew Hawkins/Mitchell Hockley managed to win four rubbers when playing Alresford at Alresford in Division 3.  Both pair won two rubbers.  Bob Thirkell/Scott Page won two rubbers for the home side.  In the same division Waverley beat Whitchurch 7/2 at John Hunt School.  Sean Mallard and Phil Cooke won the two rubbers for the visitors.  Richard James and Andrew Mountford scored a maximum for the home side with Colin Huntley/Kevin Caldicott and Darren Nicholls/Philip Quinn supplying two each.

Mixed Match Report 31/12/04     In the one match reported in the Mixed section BH Pegasus A beat Sherpas A 8/1 at John Hunt School in Division 1.  Ian Young and Hayley Kopp won the consolation rubber for Sherpas A with David Burrell/Anu Davies and Martin Hill/Amanda Marsden both winning maxima for BH Pegasus A and David Gough/Fiona Tebbutt contributing the remaining two rubbers.

County Teams 31/12/04   After the second series of three matches in National Division 1, Hampshire have now 25 points and languish in 9th place in the table. The only team below is Cheshire seemingly doomed to relegation with only 14 points.  The second relegation spot will be closely contested over the final weekend in February as Essex, in 6th place, have 29 points, Gloucestershire are next on 28 followed by Surrey with 26.  Hampshire's opponents for this final weekend are, on the Saturday, Avon and Essex and then on the Sunday, current leaders Warwickshire (32 points).  It is essential that we get as many points as possible from both Avon and Essex because Yorkshire, champions for the last 5 years, are only 4 points behind in second spot, so Warwickshire will be going all out for as many points as they can get to win the trophy for the first time.

Weekend Results

Hampshire          6 Surrey       4
Gloucestershire   5 Hampshire  5
Hampshire          3 Yorkshire    7
