Ladies Match Report - 30/03/06 Beechdown ladies in the Ladies 6 Division of the Ian Dewar sponsored league beat visiting Waverley 6/3 last week.  This result still leaves them with a slight chance of taking the title.  They have two matches still to play, one of which is against BH Pegasus who are only two points ahead at the moment while leaders Viking with one match to go have an eight point cushion over the BH Pegasus side.  Andrea Hill/Ruth Seward and Karen Southwell/Sandra Smith recorded maxima for Beechdown with each of the Waverley pairs, Caroline Rodbourne/Sandra Jennings, Debbie Symes/Christine Fowler and Heather Mountford/Gill Trimmer winning one rubber

Mens Match Report - 30/03/06  Viking Mens A team are this year’s Division 1 champions.  They beat Andover Sports B 9/0 at Andover to reach 69 points and with one match to complete their programme cannot be overtaken.  Their winning team was Richard Whatley/James Bevis, Tim Cooper/Mike Fidge and Tony Coombes/Chris Powell

Although both Firefly and Viking B are sure of promotion to Division 1 for next season the eventual Division 2 champion is still uncertain.  Viking B look to have the better chance as
with three matches to play compared to Firefly’s one they are only one point in arrears.  Scott Wilkins/Graeme Berry, Ian Shoard/Simon Williamson and Vincent Young/Neil Hodges were the Viking B team which defeated LoddonSherpas A 9/0 recently.  Steve Webb/John Weston and Colin Pink/Mick Turrell both won their three rubbers when Firefly beat Beechdown B 6/3 at the Hurst.  Paul Deed/Richard Bowen, Steve Nolan/Tim Jefferies and Keith Dawson/James Bartlett won one rubber each for Beechdown B.  Hurst beat visitors Alresford who had only two pairs 6/3 in the same division.  This defeat means that Alresford will finish at the bottom of the table.   Scott and Marc Page won the three rubbers for Alresford while Adam Jesney/Dave Keep, Alex Wigmore/Jeremy Browne and David Ord/Mark Payne won one rubber each for the home team.   LoddonSherpas A were involved in two 5/4 results.  In the first they lost by this score to BH Pegasus B at the Sports Centre and later they beat Firefly by this score at Cranbourne School.  In the first match Ian Young/Matthew Frost won their three rubbers for LoddonSherpas A supported by one from Phil Hood/Richard Burt.  Alex Groom/Kevin Harris and Steve Glover/Dale Turpin recorded two rubbers each for BH Pegasus B with Andrew Boswell/Nick Harvey supplying the fifth.  At Cranbourne, Colin Pink/Mick Turrell won one rubber for Firefly as did Phil Pike/Scott Armstead with Steve Webb/John Weston getting two.  Ian Young and Matthew Frost and Phil Hood/Mark Gentry won two rubbers each for the home team with Seth Ball/Richard Burt chipping in with the fifth.

BH Pegasus C are keeping up the pressure on both Phoenix A and Andover in Division 3.  They beat a two pair Whitchurch team 6/3 at the Sports Centre with Ray Chow/Steve Tribe winning two rubbers and Andrew Minting/Frank Dowling the other.  Dave Cooley and Stuart Gordon won two rubbers for Whitchurch supported by one from Sean Mallard/Phil Cook.

Mixed Match Report - 30/03/06  No matches reported this week

Hampshire County - 30/03/06  Both Hampshire 2nd and 3rd teams are in action this weekend at Westgate in their final matches of the season.  The 2nd team entertain Somerset and the 3rd team play Devon 2nd.  Both matches start at 1.00pm.  The two teams have a good chance of promotion.  Unfortunately the 2nd team may miss out on promotion to National League Division B as the 1st team are in danger of relegation from National League Division A and two teams from one county are not permitted in any one division.  The fate of the 1st team depends on their performance at the final weekend on 8/9 April at Milton Keynes.  Their opponents are Gloucestershire, Avon and Lancashire.  At the moment Gloucestershire have 21 points, Lancashire 20 and Hampshire 18.  Good results against these two counties are essential for survival.
