22/04/05 A 9/0 victory by
BH Pegasus A over Sherpas at Winchester Road in Mixed Division 1 lifted
them well clear of the relegation zone.
David Burrell/Anu Davies, Martin Hill/Amanda Marsden and Abdul
Khan/Fiona Tebbutt were the three winning pairings. At the bottom of
this division Waynflete lost 6/3 at home to Andover Sports A, a result
which means that they will be relegated as well as Sherpas A.
Wayne/Caroline Barter won the three rubbers for Waynflete with
each of the visiting pairs, Shaun McDonald/Liz Roberts, Damien
Roberts/Sue Hartfield and Emerson Cumberbatch/Sandra McDonald securing
two rubbers.
In Division 3, Whitchurch played two home matches to complete
their season’s programme.

Gordon/Ellen Dennett, two rubbers from Dave Cooley/Linda Jones and one
from Sean Mallard/Moya Abbott.
In this match Phil Hood/lee Timperley won two rubbers for Loddon

Viking C team whose 6 points has lifted them into the second promotion
spot behind St Marys.
Ian Shoard/Ruth Cairns and Graeme Berry/Sarah King were the two
winning pairs.
Waverley A confirmed the top spot in the Division 4 table
as theirs with a convincing 9/0 win over Beechdown D.
Adam Bridgen/Sandra Jennings, Colin Huntley/Debbie Symes and
Philip Quinn/Caroline Rodbourne were their three successful
combinations.
Four points from a 5/4 defeat at Aldermaston by Aldermaston B
have given Basing Cavaliers a one point advantage over Waverley B for
the second promotion place in this division.
Both these teams have one match remaining, although the Cavaliers
appear to have the more difficult of the two in that they have to play
Waverley A at Old Basing while Waverley B have to entertain Beechdown D.

B in this match supported by one rubber each from Ben Coapes/Joan Vinall
and Paul Roper/Emily Eadington.

County Inter-District K-O Cup 22/04/05
Ruth Cairns from Basingstoke was in charge of the County Inter-District Knock-Out Cup Competition which was played at the Westgate Centre on Sunday 17th April. In the first round Basingstoke represented by Tim Cooper. Peter Seward, Richard Whatley, Karen Bayman, Anu Davies and Ling Tan lost heavily to a strong Winchester side. They went on to contest and win the Plate Competition against Waterside who in turn had lost to Southampton in the first round. Basingstoke won two of the three Mixed doubles in this final and only lost the third by 1 point. Waterside won only one of the Ladies Doubles and none of the Mens to leave Basingstoke winners of the Plate for the 6th time in succession with a 186/129 score. In the main competition Winchester proved too strong for Aldershot & Camberley whom they met in the semi-final beating them 151/110. The other semi-final between Southampton and Portsmouth was close with only 1 point separating the teams after the three Mixed Doubles. Southampton then won two of the three Mens Doubles and two of the three Ladies Doubles to finish the match with an 11 point lead 164/153. In the final Winchester dominated the Mixed, winning two and only losing 21/14 in the third before winning all three Mens Doubles. In reply the Southampton Ladies won their three doubles so it was the 15 points lead from the Mixed which finally helped to give Winchester a winning margin of 13 points 139/126. The trophy will be presented at the County AGM at the end of June.
