Ladies Match Report 20/10/04 Last season’s Ladies 6 champions, BH Pegasus started their campaign for this year’s title, in the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored League with a narrow 5/4 home victory over Waynflete. Anu Davies and Kim Newman set up the win by taking all three of their rubbers aided by two from Amanda Marsden/Fiona Tebbutt. Sarah Impey/Caroline Barter won two for the visitors with Kirsty Wykes/Claire Beckett and Helen Davies/Caroline Hudson getting one each. In the same division, a two pair Andover Sports team were beaten 8/1 by visitors Beechdown. Pauline Prior/Liz Roberts salvaged the only home rubber with Andrea Hill/Ruth Seward and Madge Cummings/Debbie Watkins winning two rubbers and Karen Southwell/Sandra Smith getting one
Mens
Match Report 20/10/04 After
two matches each, Beechdown A and Viking A are level in Mens Division 1
as a result of a 5/4 home win for the former over the latter.
Neil Marie/Tim Corke took a maximum for the winners with Mick
Cummings/Daniel Harvey getting the other two.
Richard Whatley/James Bevis won two rubbers for Viking A while
Mike Fidge/Tom Noel and Tim Cooper/Jonathan Phillips supplied one each.
In the first match reported in Division 2, Aldermaston beat Andover
Sports B 5/4 at home. Chris
Apsey/Graham Page won their three rubbers for the home side supported by
two from Stephen Gaunt/David Lowe. Peter Cowmeadow/Graham Woodrow won two rubbers for the losing
visitors and almost got the third while Andrew Kinge/Ronan Jackson and
Ian Swatton/Chris Clark obtained one each.
In an earlier match in the same division, Firefly beat Beechdown
B 8/1 at Winchester Road. Nigel
Appleton and Nick Jones were the only successful home pairing. Phil Pike/Scott Armstead and Steve Webb/John Weston both
recorded maxima for Firefly supported by two rubbers from Colin
Pink/Mick Turrell.
In Division 3, Loddon emerged close 5/4 winners after a visit to
Whitchurch. Phil Hood/Mark
Gentry recorded a maximum with Matthew Hawkins/Steve Woodward getting
the other two for Loddon. The
home side’s rubbers were scored by Stuart Gordon/Dave Cooley, two and
Sean Mallard/Phil Cooke and Steve Watts/John Aiken
one each. In
the same division, in an unfinished match, Hurst beat Waverley 6/2 at
John Hunt School. John
Beattie/Keith Miles and Darren Nicholls/Andrew Mountford won a rubber
each for Waverley with David Ord/Chris Puxley getting a maximum for
Hurst supported by two rubbers from Adam Jesney/Dan Parkin and one from
Ken Jones/Don Hartwell.
Despite having only two pairs Andover managed to only lose 5/4 to
Sherpas at John Hunt School in Division 4.
Both the visiting pairs, Chris McIntyre/Joe Dale and Alan
Dixon/Peter Fletcher won two rubbers while brothers Ian and Chris Young
won two rubbers for Sherpas.
Mixed
Match Report 20/10/04 Aldermaston
A, in Mixed Division 2, suffered differing fortunes in their first two
matches. They firstly beat
a two pair visiting Firefly team 6/3 and then went down 9/0 when they
played BH Pegasus B at the Sports Centre.
David Lowe/Sandra Page won two rubbers in the match against
Firefly with Graham Page/Sally Jenkins getting the third.
Phil Pike/Kim Rhodes won two of the Firefly rubbers supplemented
by one from Steve Webb/Rosemarie Pomroy.
The three successful BH Pegasus B pairings in the 9/0 defeat of
Aldermaston A were Tony Ashworth/Ling Tan, Andy Lang/Sue Lorraine and
Peter Pfeiffer/Lesley Acheson.
Carlo Rapacioli/Diane Cooper and Ian Shoard/Ruth Cairns both won
two rubbers for Viking C when they beat Beechdown C 5/4 at Beechdown in
Division 3. Horace
Mitchell/Barbara Leadbeater got the vital fifth for the visitors.
Mick Cummings/Jan McDonald kept a clean sheet for the home side
with Nigel Appleton/Karen Southwell getting the fourth.
Later, Tim Williams/Lynn Perrini scored a maximum for Beechdown C
when they beat visitors Loddon 6/3.
Nigel Appleton/Karen Southwell won two rubbers and Bruce
Scott/Jan McDonald one to complete the victory.
Phil Hood/Lee Timperley won two of the loser’s rubbers
supported by one from Mark Gentry/Lynn White.
Coaching Courses 20/10/04 The League had planned to run two Personal Performance Coaching Courses this season. The first on Sunday 24th October at Fort Hill School has had to be cancelled due to lack of support but the second on Sunday 21st November at Westgate Centre is still available. The course will be staffed by County Coaches and run from 10.00am until 3.00pm. The cost is £15 (full time students £7.50). Application forms have already been sent to all the League clubs and should be returned to the secretary before 13th November. Further forms may be had from the League Secretary on 01256 781249.
