Ladies Match Report 14/04/05    In their penultimate match in Ladies 6 Division of the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored league Viking managed a 5/4 away victory over second placed Beechdown.  Karen Bayman/Rachel Phillips and Diane Cooper/Jane Halls both won two rubbers for the winners with Ingrid Hart/Ruth Cairns chipping in with one.  Andrea Hill/Ruth Seward scored a maximum three rubbers for Beechdown while Karen Southwell/Sandra Smith got the fourth.  Sarah Impey/Caroline Barter won two rubbers and Helen Davies/Claire Beckett won one when a two pair Waynflete side lost 6/3 to Andover Sports at Andover.  Pauline Prior/Sandra McDonald won two rubbers for the home side supplemented by one from Liz Roberts/Susan Hartfield

Mens Match Report 14/04/05  There were two matches reported in Mens Division 1.  In the first, played back in February, Beechdown A defeated BH Pegasus A 8/1 at the Sports Centre with Abdul Khan/Tony Ashworth the only home winners.  Neil Marie/Peter Seward and Mick Cummings/Tim Corke won maxima for the victorious visiting side complemented by two rubbers from Daniel Harvey/Daniel Sheppard.   In the other match Andover Sports A received a walkover when BH Pegasus B were unable to field a team.

Firefly finished in third place in Division 2 after an 8/1 home defeat of Beechdown B who will be relegated along with Andover Sports C.  Tim Williams/Mark Bayliss won the solitary Beechdown B rubber with Steve Webb/John Weston and Phil Pike/Scott Armstead both taking their three rubbers for the home side.  Colin Pink/Colin Crockford got the remaining two.

Sherpas, in Division 4, were in involved in two matches which both resulted in a 6/3 scoreline.  In the first, a victory, back in January, Ian Young/Alex Lambert, Mark Iredale/Steve Pote and Seth Ball/Neil Grange were the three successful pairs in a match against a one pair visiting Basing Cavaliers team.  Andrew Dance and Richard Dearman were the two visiting players who managed to win the three rubbers.   Just last week in the last match in the division, Sherpas lost at home to BH Pegasus C who as a result now take the second promotion place.   Mark Iredale and Ian Young won a maximum for Sherpas while each of the visiting pairs, John Skilton/James Franklin, Ray Chow/Steve Tribe and Robert Badcock/Jon Brooks won two rubbers
.

Mixed Match Report 14/04/05  After a gap of three years when Viking A were the champions Beechdown A have regained the Mixed Division 1 trophy even although they lost their last match 6/2 to Viking A at John Hunt School.  Richard Whatley/Susie Hubbard won one rubber for the home side supported by two from James Bevis/Rachel Phillips and three from Tim Cooper/Karen Bayman.  The last of these three was conceded by the Beechdown A pair in the second game when their lady sustained an eye injury which fortunately was not too serious.  Brother and sister Neil Marie and Andrea Hill won the two rubbers for the losers.  Earlier, in a match played in February for which the card has just been received, Beechdown A had beaten Waynflete 7/2 at Winchester.  Colin Burville/Helen Davies and Wayne barter/Elizabeth Burville each won a rubber for the home side in this encounter with Neil Marie/Andrea Hill and Daniel Harvey/Madge Cummings each taking three for Beechdown A supplemented by one from Peter Seward/Katie Appleton.

A 6/3 defeat of Loddon has brought Viking C into the reckoning for a promotion spot behind St Marys in Division 3.  Ian Shoard/Ingrid Hart recorded a maximum for the visiting winners supported by two rubbers from Horace Mitchell/Ruth Cairns and one from Simon Williamson/Sarah King.  Phil Hood/Lee Timperley won two of the home side’s rubbers with Mark Gentry/Lynn White getting the third.

Ben Coapes/Joan Vinall won two rubbers as did Paul Roper/Emily Eadington when Aldermaston B beat a two pair Sherpas B side 7/2 at Aldermaston in Division 4.  Rod Jenkins and Lucinda Blain were the third home pair.  Phoenix B had their third victory of the season in their final match when they beat Sherpas B 8/1 at Sherfield School.  Andy Jones/Carolyn Neale and Bob Cosgrove/Alison Rendall both won maxima for the winners with John Shipman/Jan Hodges securing the other two.  Seth Ball and Eve Bielby won the consolation rubber for the visitors.  Waverley A look to have this division sewn up but second place is still to be decided with Basing Cavaliers and Waverley B both in with a chance.

Knock-Out Cup 14/04/05  In the first semi-final of the Knock-Out Cup, Waverley (+10) defeated Beechdown (-4, owe a hand) 160/135.  Waverley’s ladies, Caroline Rodbourne, Debbie Symes and Avril Mason won the three level doubles with good scores to give their team a start.  Beechdown won two of the Mens doubles but were 38 points down with only the three Mixed doubles to play.  The task proved too much for although they won all three of these doubles the Waverley pairs secured sufficient points in each to  ensure victory.  Waverley will now play either BH Pegasus (-2, owe a hand) or St Marys ((+2) in the final

In the second semi-final of the Knock-Out Cup St Marys beat BH Pegasus 164/139.  They will now play Waverley in the final, the date and venue for which have still to be determined
