Restricted Tournament 13/02/06  The Ian Dewar sponsored Restricted Tournament at the Sports Centre on Sunday kept the five courts fully occupied for some seven hours.  

In the morning the Ladies Section, which was without backmarkers Stephanie and Cheryl Matthews, the latter of whom was injured, resulted in Susie Hubbard and Ingrid Hart (Viking) (-2) winning with a maximum 75 points followed by Kim Street and Lesley Acheson (BH Pegasus ) (-4) on 68.  In the playoff Susie and Ingrid repeated their earlier victory over Kim/Lesley, this time winning by 15/11.

The Mens Section of 7 pairs was dominated by Neil Marie and Peter Seward (Beechdown) who were unbeaten with a handicap of (-7).  They played second placed James Bevis/Richard Whatley (Viking) (-5) in the final and won with a score of 15/9, exactly the same score as had resulted in their earlier match in the section.

With a slightly larger entry the Mixed Section was played in two divisions in the afternoon.  James Bevis/Ingrid Hart (Viking) ((-4) won Division A with Jonathan/Rachel Phillips (BH Pegasus ) (-1) taking second place.  Tim Cooper/Susie Hubbard (Viking) (-4) came out top of Division 2 with Philip Desbois/Andrea Farmer (St Marys) (+1) being runners-up.  Tim and Susie reached the final by beating Jonathan and Rachel 15/11 while James and Ingrid accounted for Philip/Andrea in the other semi-final with a 15/2 scoreline.  The final, an all Viking affair, saw Tim and Susie beating James/Ingrid 15/9 after a very friendly but tight struggle. 

Ruth Cairns, League Chairman, presented the winners and runners-up with their trophies at the conclusion of the Mixed Doubles final.


Knock-Out Cup 13/02/06  As requested at the Annual General meeting the semi-finals and final of the Knock-Out Cup will be played this season on the one day.  Viking will play St Marys and Beechdown will face Waverley in the semi-finals which start at 9.40am in the Basingstoke Sports Centre on Sunday 12th March.  The final will follow as soon as possible after the completion of the earlier matches


Ladies Match Report - 13/02/06  In the Ladies 6 Division of  the Ian Dewar sponsored League, leaders Viking suffered their second successive home  5/4 defeat.  This time Beechdown were their conquerors.  Andrea Hill/Ruth Seward won three rubbers for Beechdown complimented by one each from Sara Grant/Madge Cummings and Karen Southwell/Sandra Smith.  Susie Hubbard/Ingrid Hart and Karen Bayman/Sara Haddow won two each for Viking who still head the table by 12 points from Beechdown who have a match in hand.


Mens Match Report - 13/02/06  LoddonSherpas A accounted for visiting Alresford in Mens Division 2 with a 9/0 scoreline.  Ian Young/Matthew Frost, Seth Ball/Mike Powell and Mark Gentry/Phil Hood were their winning combinations.  

In Division 3, an Andover team comprising Colin McIntyre/Ivor Brojek, Steve Russell/Martin Roberts and Chris Woodgate/Geoff Lewis beat Phoenix B 9/0 at Sherfield School to continue their unbeaten run and head the table by 5 points from second placed Phoenix A.  Elsewhere in the division LoddonSherpas B suffered two 6/3 defeats.  The first was in a match played early in December when a two pair Andover side managed a victory at John Hunt School.  Both visiting pairs, Alan Dixon/Paul Fletcher and Chris Woodgate/Geoff Lewis won their three rubbers.  Later in January,  BH Pegasus C were their opponents who finished with a 6/ 3 win.  In this match Phil Neal and Mike Powell won all the home side’s rubbers with each of the visiting pairs, Jon Brooks/Andrew Bosworth, Ray Chow/Steve Tribe and Andrew Minting/John Franklin winning two rubbers.


Mixed Match Report - 13/02/06   With Daniel Sheppard/Sandra Smith, Martin Webb/Kate Appleton and Mark Bayliss/Cathryn Perkins winning one rubber each Beechdown B beat a two pair BH Pegasus B 6/3 in Mixed Division 1.  Martin Davey and Linda Rapacioli won the three rubbers for the losing visitors.  This result leaves both teams still at the bottom of the table with the winners having a one point advantage. 

Glynn Libberton/Rhian Jenkins and Rod Jenkins/Phillipa Dines recorded two rubbers each to supplement the maximum scored by Graham Page/Hannah Ward when Aldermaston B beat Waverley B 7/2 at Aldermaston in Division 4.  Peter Bevell/Jo Berry won the loser’s two rubbers.
