Restricted Tournament 13/01/05 Entry Forms for this Tournament, which is returning to the Basingstoke Sports Centre on Sunday 6th February this season, have been sent to Club Secretaries. They may also be downloaded from this website. It is anticipated that the entry will be greater than last season’s when unfortunately the Sports Centre was not available and a four court school hall was the only alternative.

mid-November Andover Sports A lost 8/1 to visiting Viking A in Mens
Division 1 of the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored league.
Shaun McDonald and Emerson Cumberbatch recorded the sole home
rubber while James Bevis/Richard Whatley and Tim Cooper/Jonathan
Phillips won maxima for Viking A supplemented by two rubbers from Tony
Coombes/Mike Fidge. A month
later Viking A beat a two pair BH Pegasus B 9/0 at the Sports Centre.
In this match the winning team was James Bevis/Richard Whatley,
Tom Noel/Mike Fidge and Jonathan Phillips/Scott Wilkins.
BH Pegasus A, led by maxima from Tony Ashworth/Abdul Khan and
Andy Lang/David Gough had earlier beaten Viking B 8/1.
David Burrell and Martin Davey won the other two home rubbers
with Tony Coombes/Chris Powell gaining the consolation rubber for Viking
B, These results leave Viking A still 10 points behind Beechdown A
although they have one match fewer.
Both teams are well clear of the rest of the division but BH
Pegasus A could create problems for them.
In the first return match for the second half of the season,
Andover Sports B accounted for their C team with a 7/2 scoreline.
Chris Clarke/Ian Swatton and Graham Woodrow/Peter Cowmeadow both
scored maxima for the winning side with Paul Williams/Andy Kinge
securing the seventh rubber. The “visiting” side’s rubber were scored by Nick
Gladwin/Geriant Griffiths and Robin Boyce/Mark Tilston.
Mixed
Match Report 13/01/05
Second placed Viking A were held to a close 5/4 victory in Mixed
Division 1 when they played Andover Sports A at Andover.
Daniel Soper-Dyer/Pauline Prior won their three rubbers for the
home team with Shaun McDonald/Liz Roberts getting the fourth.
Tim Cooper/Karen Bayman and Richard Whatley/Juliet MacAskill both
won two rubbers for the visitors and James Bevis/Diane Richards won one
to complete the narrow win.
Aldermaston A suffered two consecutive defeats in Division 2 when
they lost 9/0 to Beechdown B early in December and then earlier this
month 7/1 to Viking B.
The successful Beechdown B team was Mick Cummings/Cathryn
Perkins, Daniel Sheppard/Sandra Smith and Mark Bayliss/Sarah Flay.
Against Viking B at John Hunt School the sole Aldermaston A rubber was
won by Chris Apsey/Julie Ward.
Tony Coombes/Diane Cooper recorded a maximum for the winners in
this time constrained match, with Chris Powell/Jane Halls and Carlo
Rapacioli/Ruth Seward both winning two rubbers.
St Marys continue to dominate Division 3.
To maintain their top position they inflicted an 8/1 defeat on
visiting Beechdown C.
Tony Glinos/Sandra Wilkinson and Keith Vincent/Margaret Mason
both won maxima for the home side with Philip Desbois/Pam Norman getting
the other two.
In a three set match, Mark Bayliss and Jan McDonald won the
solitary rubber for the losers.
In the same division Alex Groom/Jean Deverill, Steve
Glover/Doreen Quilter and Martin Davey/Jenny Skilton were the BH Pegasus
C team which beat visitors Whitchurch 9/ 0 at the Sports Centre.
In a December match just reported Waverley A beat Sherpas B 6/3
at John Hunt School in Division 4.
Seth Ball/ Eve Bielby won two rubbers for the losers while
Mangkang Peng won the third.
Andrew Mountford/Sandra Jennings won their three rubbers for
Waverley A supported by two from Colin Huntley/Debbie Symes and one from
Philip Quinn/Hayley Fox.
In their next match Sherpas B beat Phoenix B 5/4.
Seth Ball and Eve Bielby set up the victory by taking their three
rubbers and then Mengkang Peng/Liz Firth won the other two.
Bob Cosgrove/Alison Rendall secured two of the Phoenix B rubbers
with Mark Fuller/Jan Hodges and Steve Sexton/Carolyn Neale getting one
each.
