Road Viking Mixed A took the Division 1 trophy in the Ian Dewar sponsored
league by 1 point from their rivals to complete a treble for their club.
Their teams have come out on top in the Ladies Division 6, Mens
Division 1 and now Mixed Division 1. In
this crucial deciding match both teams were missing some vital players.
Beechdown had Andrea Hill on holiday and Peter Seward on the injured list
whilst Viking’s Tim Cooper was absent on business and Ingrid Hart was also
on holiday. The successful pairs
for the winners were James Bevis/Karen Bayman and Richard Whatley/Susie
Hubbard who both won maxima. Each of the home pairs, Ben/Madge Cummings, Neil Marie/Karen
Southwell and Daniel Sheppard/Sandra Smith won one rubber.
The previous evening BH Pegasus A had beaten Beechdown B in the same
division 8/1, also at Winchester Road. Daniel
Sheppard and Sandra Smith were the winners of the solitary home rubber with
David Burrell/Kim Street and Jonathan Phillips/Amanda Marsden achieving maxima
for the winners supported by two rubbers from Kevin Harris/Lesley Acheson.
BH Pegasus B’s 6/3 home defeat of Andover Sports A, led by a maximum
from Andy Lang/Sue Lorrain, was insufficient to save them from the second
relegation spot in the division. Kevin
Harris/Doreen Quilter won two of the other rubbers for BH Pegasus B with
Martin Davey/Linda Rapacioli supplying the sixth. Chris Clark/Pauline Prior
won two of the visitor’s rubbers and Emerson Cumberbatch/Sandra McDonald
contributed the other.
A 6/3 win at Whitchurch over the home side ensured that Phoenix A were
Division 4 champions. Dave
Cooley/Ellen Dennett won two of the loser’s rubbers with Stuart Gordon/Diane
Sabin getting the other. Tim
Little/Averil Mason won their three for the victorious visiting side
complimented by two from Paul Nightingale/Nicola Blake and one from Matthew
Savastang/Carolyn Neale. Later a two pair Whitchurch team played a two pair Basing
Cavaliers team winning 3/1 to finish the competitive season.
