11/03/05 In
their penultimate match in the Ladies 4 Division of the Ian Dewar
(Castlegate Investments) sponsored league BH Pegasus managed a 3/3 draw
with Andover. Norma Scott
and Amanda Marsden participated in two winning rubbers while Emmy Davies
and Jenny Skilton took part in one each.
For the home team Karen Causley played in two winning rubbers as
did Laura Thomas with Ann Viney and Kay Carrington playing in one each.
A 5/1 away win over Waverley leaves Sherpas leading the table
with 26 points, three ahead of BH Pegasus and with one more match to
play than their rivals. Avril
Mason and Debbie Symes were the only successful home pair while sisters
Cheryl and Stephanie Matthews took part in three winning pairs for the
winners supported by Hayley Kopp and Liz Firth playing in two.
Mens
Match Report
11/03/05 In
a Division 3 Mens match which could not be completed because one of the
visiting players turned up late Loddon maintained their second place in
the table with a 5/3 victory over Alresford.
They now only require only one point from their last match which
is at home to unbeaten leaders Hurst, to make sure of promotion.
Richard Burt/Phil Hood and Steve Woodward/Mark Gentry won two
rubbers each for Loddon complemented by one from Mitchell Hockley/Phil
Neal. Bob
Thirkell and Scott Page won two of the visitors rubbers with Nigel
Butcher/John Read securing the third.
In Division 1, Tim Cooper/Jonathan Phillips, James Bevis/Richard
Whatley and Mike Fidge/Scott Wilkins were the three successful Viking A
pairs which accounted for a two pair BH Pegasus B team with a 9/0
scoreline.
Andover clinched the Division 4 title with a 6/3 home defeat of
Phoenix B despite a maximum three rubbers from the visitors Paul
Nightingale/Paul Verling.
Each of the home pairs, Ivor Brojek/Phil Neal, Jo Li/Paul
Fletcher and Geoff Lewis/Mark Jenkins won two rubbers.
Mixed
Match Report
11/03/05 BH
Pegasus B team comprising Abdul Khan/Lesley Acheson, Tony Ashworth/Kim
Newman and Andy Lang/Sue Lorrain beat a two pair Firefly side 9/0 in
Mixed Division
2 at the Sports Centre. They only need three points from their
last game which is against second placed Beechdown B to secure the top
promotion spot.
Beechdown B beat Viking B 6/3 at Winchester Road.
Mick Cummings/Cathryn Perkins won a maximum for the home team
supported by two rubbers from Mark Bayliss/Lynn Perrini and one from
Daniel Sheppard/Sandra Smith.
Tony Coombes/Diane Cooper won two of the loser’s rubbers with
Carlo Rapiocoli/Sarah King getting the other.
The Division 4 table has undergone quite a change with the receipt of
Waverley B’s outstanding cards.
In mid-October they beat Aldermaston B 7/2 at home with Keith
Fleming/Lucinda Blain and Rod Jenkins/Joan Vinall each winning a rubber
for the losing visitors.
Ray Rich/Avril Mason and Darren Nicholls/Sally Holmes recorded
maxima for Waverley B supported by one from Kevin Caldicott/Sandra
Jennings.
Some five weeks later they accounted for a two pair Sherpas B
side with a 6/3 scoreline.
Andrew/Heather Mountford won two rubbers with Ray Rich/Avril
Mason getting one to complete the scoring.
Seth Ball/Eve Bielby won two rubbers for Sherpas B with Mengkang
Peng/Liz Firth getting their third.
Early in January Basing Cavaliers were on the wrong side of a 6/3
score against Waverley B.
Again Andrew/Heather Mountford were to the fore for the winners
taking all three of their rubbers supported by two from Darren
Nicholls/Margaret Quinn and one from Ray rich/Avril Mason.
Steve Gaunt/Judith Lillis won two of the three Basing Cavaliers
rubbers with Andrew Dance/Jan Hall supplying the third.
Then the Mountfords were the only winners when Waverley A beat
their B side 7/1 with Colin Huntley/Debbie Symes and Richard
James/Sandra Jennings securing maxima for the winners complemented by
one rubber from Philip Quinn/Caroline Rodbourne.
In their latest encounter Waverley B, only able to field two
pairs to face Aldermaston B at Aldermaston, suffered a 5/4 defeat. Glynn
Libberton/Joan Vinall won the two home rubbers while Andrew/Heather
Mountford won two for Waverley B as did Darren Nicholls/Margaret Quinn.
This glut of results now leave Waverley A and Waverley B in the
top two places in the table with 55 and 50 points respectively
Inter County
Championships 11/03/05 Hampshire County 3rd team remain unbeaten in Section D of
Regional Division 4 in the Inter County Championships after a 10/5
victory over Cornwall at St Austell and just last Sunday a similar score
against Wiltshire 3rds at Melksham.
The 2nd team have not fared so well having lost their
last two matches in Division 1 section D.
Berkshire beat them 12/3 at Woodford and then they went down 11/4
to Somerset at Yeovil.
