Annual General Meeting.

Provisional date Wednesday 6th July 2005. This date and the venue will be confirmed within the next two weeks.

Ladies Match Report 08/04/05      Having secured a 6/0 win over Andover at Andover, Sherpas are this season’s Ladies 4 Division champions of the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored league.  Hayley Kopp, Stephanie Matthews, Cheryl Matthews and Liz Firth comprised the winning quartet.  This is Sherpas’ second successive year as champions.  Later, in the same division, Andover enjoyed a 4/2 home win over Beechdown.  Each of the home ladies, Karen Causley, Ann Viney, Maureen Hudson and Kay Harrington won two rubbers with each of the Beechdown side, Sandra Smith, Lynn Perrini, Karen Southwell and Clare Taylor taking part in one successful rubber

Mens Match Report 08/04/05  Although they had only one pair, Emerson Cumberbatch and Shaun McDonald, Andover Sports A, in Division 1, managed to take two rubbers from BH Pegasus A at the Sports Centre.  The home side’s Tony Ashworth/Abdul Khan won their only rubber.  Andy Lang/David Gough and David Burrell/Martin Davey made up the remaining two home pairs.  In the same division the bottom two teams played at John Hunt School with the home side, Viking B emerging 6/3 winners over BH Pegasus B.  Each of the visitor’s pairings, Martin Hill/Prasanth Kumarat, Steve Glover/Dale Turpin and Alex Groom/Nick Harvey, won one rubber.  Stuart Cheung/Simon Williamson, Graeme Berry/Jon Thomson and Steve Ineson/Neil Hodges made up the home team with each winning two rubbers.

Phoenix B finished their programme in Division 4 with only their second victory of the season when they beat a two pair Basing Cavaliers 8/1 at Sherfield School.  Paul Verling/Paul Nightingale and Tim Little/Noel Matthews both won their two rubbers for the home side supplemented by one from Paul Warden/Andy Jones.  Andrew Dance and Martin Cresswell won the solitary visitor’s rubber.

Mixed Match Report 08/04/05  The three points from a 6/3 defeat by Aldermaston A in Mixed Division 2 were sufficient to help Beechdown B claim the second promotion spot in the table.  They finished just one point ahead of Viking B in third place.  Daniel Sheppard/Sandra Smith won two of the vital rubbers complemented by one from Mick Cummings/Cathryn Perkins.  Chris Apsey/Sue Richardson kept a clean sheet for the winning home side with Lawrence Sutton/Helen Apsey winning two rubbers and David Lowe/Sally Jenkins one.

Without having to play their last match, St Marys, as a result of their 9/0 victory over Whitchurch are Division 3 champions.  Keith Vincent/Janine Fisher, Mark Pascal-Smith/Pam Norman and Tony/Lyn Glinos were their three winning combinations.

Seth Ball/Eve Bielby won one rubber when Sherpas B lost 5/4 to a two pair visiting Waverley B team 5/4 in Division 4.  Andrew/Heather Mountford won a maximum for Waverley B supported by two rubbers from Darren Nicholls/Hayley Fox.  Aldermaston B got five points when they beat Beechdown D at Winchester Road.  Rod Jenkins/Joan Vinall and Paul Roper/Rhian Jenkins both won two rubbers for the visitors with Neil Hince/Lucinda Blain chipping in with one.  Paul Deed/ Sue Nolan won their three rubbers for Beechdown D while Chris Meeking/Leanne Francis got the fourth.  With two matches to play Waverley A look to have the top place in this Division well in their sights but the second promotion spot is still in the melting pot.  Waverley B have 58 points with one match to play while Basing Cavaliers have 55 with two matches to go.  Aldermaston B still have an outside chance as they have 40 points but have three matches still to play.   One of these three is against the Cavaliers side at Aldermaston while the Cavaliers have also to play leaders Waverley A.

Inter County Championships 08/04/05 Last weekend Yorkshire 2nd team won Division B of the National Championships.  They cannot be promoted as the rules do not permit two teams from one county in any one division.  As a result, only one team will be relegated from Division A which means that Hampshire 1st team, having finished in 9th place from ten, will still be in that division next season.

Knock-Out Cup 08/04/05  In the first semi-final of the Knock-Out Cup, Waverley (+10) defeated Beechdown (-4, owe a hand) 160/135.  Waverley’s ladies, Caroline Rodbourne, Debbie Symes and Avril Mason won the three level doubles with good scores to give their team a start.  Beechdown won two of the Mens doubles but were 38 points down with only the three Mixed doubles to play.  The task proved too much for although they won all three of these doubles the Waverley pairs secured sufficient points in each to  ensure victory.  Waverley will now play either BH Pegasus (-2, owe a hand) or St Marys ((+2) in the final

In the second semi-final of the Knock-Out Cup St Marys beat BH Pegasus 164/139.  They will now play Waverley in the final, the date and venue for which have still to be determined
