End of Season Party 06/05/05  Sue Lorraine’s 2nd “End of Season Bash” was another success, this time raising £715 for The Childrens’ Hospice, Naomi House.  They are re-furbishing some rooms so that families may stay with their child for a period of time and Sue has asked that the proceeds from her venture be used to help in this refurbishing.  She wishes to thank all who supported the party either by attending and/or supplying prizes for the raffle and looks forward to a bigger and better “Bash” next year!

Mens Match Report 06/05/05  The last Mens card received, which was for a match played in early April gave Viking A their eighth victory of the season, this a close 5/4 away win over BH Pegasus A at the Sports Centre.  In the match  BH Pegasus A had to concede two of the rubbers and Tim Cooper and Jonathan Phillips won two rubbers for the winners supported by one from Neil Hodges/Graeme Berry.  Tony Ashworth/Abdul Khan won two rubbers for the home side as did David Burrell/Martin Davey

Veterans Badminton 06/05/05   Congratulations to the Hampshire Over 60’s team which won the Southern Counties League early in March and went on to play in the National finals at Hatfield on 23rd/24th April.  On the Saturday, in the semi-final they defeated Nottinghamshire on a countback having finished at 6 games all.  On Sunday Staffordshire were their opponents in the final. A score of 9/3 meant that the Hampshire side were the winners of this age group.  Diane Cooper from the Viking club was the only representative from the Basingstoke League in this team.  Overall the Hampshire veterans sides have performed well this season.  The Over 50’s, Over 60’s and Over 65’s all won their leagues in the Southern Counties Inter-Counties Championship and therefore qualified to play in the final early in April.  The Over 50’s and Over 65’s came 3rd whilst the Over 60’s finished in 4th place.  There is plenty of Badminton for the “more mature” player.  Anyone interested should contact Diane Cooper on 01256 771794.
