Ladies Match Report 04/02/05 Andover ladies, in the Ladies 4 Division of the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored league, visited Waverley and came away 4/2 winners. Karen Causley and Ann Viney took part in three victorious rubbers each while Mo Hudson and Lorraine Phillips participated in one each. Debbie Symes and Averil Mason played in one winning rubber each with Sandra Jennings taking part in two.

Match Report
04/02/05 A Viking A
Mens side composed of James Bevis/Richard Whatley, Tim Cooper/Jonathan
Phillips and Mike Fidge/Scott Wilkins accounted for their B team with a
scoreline of 9/0 in Division 1.
This victory places the Viking side just 8 points behind current
leaders Beechdown A whom they play at John Hunt School next week.
The result of this encounter could well decide the Division 1
title.
In Division 2, Aldermaston reversed an earlier defeat in beating
Firefly 7/2 at Aldermaston.
Both David Lowe/Stephen Gaunt and Chris Apsey/Graham Page
recorded maxima for the home side complimented by one rubber from Paul
Roper/Lawrence Sutton. Steve Webb/ Gary Leach and Phil Pike/Scott
Armstead won one rubber for the losers.
Ray Rich and Colin Huntley were the winners of the solitary
rubber scored by a two pair Waverley team in an 8/1 defeat by Hurst at
the Hurst in Division 3.
Adam Jesney/Stephen Hartwell and Dave Keep/David Ord both won two
rubbers for the home side with Jeremy Browne/Chris Plaxley supplying the
other.
Hurst have only two matches remaining in their programme and with
a 15 points lead over their nearest rivals Alresford look almost certain
to gain the top promotion spot.
Alresford have three matches remaining, the first of which is
against Hurst at the Hurst next Friday.
As with Division 2 this match should determine the eventual
winners of the division
Phil Neal/Jim Dale, Ivor Brojek/Alan Dixon and Mark Jenkins/Geoff
Lewis were the successful Andover team which defeated Sherpas 9/0 in
Division 4 to take a 2 point in the table from BH Pegasus C who have
played one match more.
These two teams meet next week at Andover and once again this is
another match which could settle the top places in the table. BH Pegasus
C dropped very valuable points when with only one pair they lost 5/2 to
a two pair Basing Cavaliers team at Old Basing.
Mike Powell and Andrew Minting won one rubber in this match while
for the home side Richard Dearman/Andrew dance won one rubber.
Mixed
Match Report
04/02/05 BH
Pegasus B continue to dominate Mixed Division 2 following a 7/2 victory
over Beechdown B at Winchester Road.
Abdul Khan/Lesley Acheson won a maximum for the visitors
supported by two rubbers each from Andy Lang/Sue Lorrain and Tony
Ashworth/Kim Newman.
Mick Cummings and Cathryn Perkins won the two rubbers for the
home side.
In Division 3, Viking C beat a two pair Loddon side 7/2.
Each of the visiting pairs, Phil Hood/Lee Timperley and Richard
Burt/Wendy Heywood won one rubber.
Horace Mitchell/Barbara Leadbeater and Ian Shoard/Ruth Cairns won
two rubbers for Viking C.
Stephen Gaunt/Judith Lillis and Andrew Dance/Sheila Weston made
up the two pair Basing Cavaliers team which beat Phoenix B 6/3 at
Sherfield school in Division 4.
The Cavaliers team are just one point ahead of Waverley A in this
division with Aldermaston B who have played one match more breathing
down their necks.
A tight finish looks a distinct possibility.
Knock-Out Cup 04/02/05 The places for the semi-finals of the Knock-Out Cup have been decided. Waverley, having narrowly beaten Waynflete by one point are at home to Beechdown winners over rivals Viking by 13 points while St Marys who beat Basing Cavaliers by a similar margin host BH Pegasus. The latter accounted for Whitchurch with a 184/140 scoreline. These matches should be completed before 12th March.
County Teams 04/02/05 On Sunday 16th January Hampshire 2nd and 3rd teams were in action at the Westgate Centre. The 2nd team had their first win of the season beating Devon 1st 10/5 while the 3rd team continued their unbeaten run with an easy 15/0 victory over Devon 3rd team. The win by the 2nd team may just get them out of the relegation zone in Regional Division 1D Over the weekend 19/20th February Hampshire 1st team will play their last three matches in National Division 1 for this season. Their opponents are, on the Saturday, Avon and Essex and on the Sunday current leaders, Warwickshire. At present lying in 9th position in the table with 25 points the team must gain sufficient points to bypass Surrey (26 points) and Gloucestershire (28) to have any chance of avoiding relegation.
