Waverley had a good 6/0 victory against Beechdown at Winchester Road in
the Ladies 4 Division to join BH Pegasus in second spot in the table.
The latter have one match still to play against leaders Sherpas
who have also to play Andover and so must remain favourites to win the
division.
The victorious Waverley team was Caroline Rodbourne, Debbie
Symes, Heather Mountford and Avril Mason
Mens
Match Report
01/04/05 Viking
B are making a strong effort to avoid the second relegation spot in Mens
Division 1. This week they
defeated BH Pegasus A 6/2 at John Hunt School.
Each of their three pairs, Carlo Rapacioli/Neil Hodges, Graeme
Berry/Ian Shoard and Chris Powell/Tony Coombes won two rubbers with
David Burrell/Martin Davey recording the two rubbers for the visitors.
Andover Sports B are this season’s Division 2 champions.
They defeated Aldermaston 6/3 to complete their programme. This result also leaves Aldermaston in second place to join
their opponents in Division 1 next season.
In a high scoring encounter Peter Cowmeadow/Graham Woodrow scored
a maximum for the winners supported by two rubbers from Nick
Gladwin/Geriant Griffiths and one from Chris Clarke/Andy Kinge.
Each of the visiting pairs, Chris Apsey/Graham Page, David
Lowe/Stephen Gaunt and Paul Roper/Lawrence Sutton won one rubber.
In another match in the same division Geriant Griffiths and Nick
Gladwin were the only winners when Andover Sports C lost 8/1 when
visiting Beechdown B. Nigel
Appleton/Nick Jones and Mark Bayliss/Tim Williams both scored maxima for
the home side complemented by two from Bruce Scott/Chris Meeking.
The Division 3 match at Cranbourne school resulted in a 6/3 win
for the home side. Loddon
led 6/2 and were 1 game up in the final match but lost the next two
which gave Hurst the necessary point to take the top spot in the table.
Richard Burt/Phil Hood won their three rubbers fro Loddon
supported by two from Steve Woodward/Mark Gentry and one from Mitchell
Hockley/Matthew Hawkins. David
Ord/Dave Keep won one rubber for Hurst while Adam Jesney/Stephen
Hartwell won two including that last vital one.
Alresford beat Whitchurch 8/1 at Alresford to take third place
while keeping Whitchurch in the bottom spot.
Dave Cooley and Stuart Gordon won the sole loser’s rubber with
Scott Page/Bob Thirkell and Marc Page/Ralph Pointer both winning maxima
and Ted Dowson/John Read contributing the remaining two rubbers for
Alresford.
Mixed
Match Report
01/04/05 BH Pegasus B beat
Beechdown B 8/1 at the Sports Centre to ensure top place in the Mixed
Division 2 table.
Tony Ashworth/Ling Tan and Abdul Khan/Kim Newman won maxima for
the winners supported by two rubbers from Andy Lang/Sue Lorrain.
The solitary visitor’s rubber was scored by Martin Webb/ Lynn
Perrini.
Viking B had an 9/0 win over a two pair Firefly side which will
now be relegated.
Chris Powell/Jane Hall, Graeme Berry/Ruth Seward and Tony
Coombes/Diane Cooper were the three victorious pairs for Viking B who
are now in second place in the table.
Beechdown B, who have to play Aldermaston away, and are only two
points behind, could still beat them to the second promotion spot.
With two matches still remaining St Marys are sure of the 3rd
Division trophy.
They recently defeated Beechdown C at Winchester Road 7/2 with
Keith Vincent/Janine Fisher winning a maximum as did Mark Ferguson/Pam
Norman supported by one from Philip Brooks/Andrea Farmer.
Mark Bayliss/Jan McDonald and Nick Jones/Clare Taylor won one
rubber each for th losing home side.
With two cards in from Basing Cavalier matches, both recording 6/3
victories, the second place behind Waverley A in the division 4 table is
now more open.
Against Beechdown D in late February a two pair Cavaliers team
composed of Steve Gaunt/Judith Lillis and Andrew Dance/Sheila Weston
beat Beechdown D 6/3 and again with only the same two pairs they beat
Waverley B by the same score. Basing Cavaliers currently have a two
point advantage over Waverley B with both teams still to play two
matches to complete their programmes.
One of the Cavaliers matches is against Waverley A at Old Basing.
A good result here for Waverley A could really help the B side
reach the second promotion spot.
Elsewhere in the division Waverley A emphasised their position in
beating Sherpas B 8/1 at John Hunt School where Seth Ball and Eve Bielby
were the only visiting winning pair.
Richard James/Sandra Jennings and Colin Huntley/Debbie Symes won
maxima for the winners supported by two rubbers from Philip
Quinn/Heather Mountford.
Inter County Championships 01/04/05 The County 3rd team completed a unbeaten season with an 13/2 victory over Dorset 3rds at Westgate on Sunday 19th March losing only one Mens Doubles and one Ladies Singles. The second team were to have played Guernsey on the same day but received a walkover as the Guernsey team was fogbound on the island and was unable to travel
