Ladies Match Report 01/04/05   BH Pegasus are once again champions in the Ladies 6 Division of the Ian Dewar (Castlegate Investments) sponsored league.  Having beaten a two pair visiting Andover Sports team 8/1 and with only one match still to play they have a 20 point lead over their nearest rivals Beechdown.  Sandra McDonald and Ellen Dennett won the sole rubber for Andover Sports in this match with Anu Davies/Ling Tan and Fiona Tebbutt/Amanda Marsden both taking two for the winners.  One rubber from Kim Newman and Emy Davies completed the scoring.

Waverley had a good 6/0 victory against Beechdown at Winchester Road in the Ladies 4 Division to join BH Pegasus in second spot in the table.  The latter have one match still to play against leaders Sherpas who have also to play Andover and so must remain favourites to win the division.  The victorious Waverley team was Caroline Rodbourne, Debbie Symes, Heather Mountford and Avril Mason

Mens Match Report 01/04/05  Viking B are making a strong effort to avoid the second relegation spot in Mens Division 1.  This week they defeated BH Pegasus A 6/2 at John Hunt School.  Each of their three pairs, Carlo Rapacioli/Neil Hodges, Graeme Berry/Ian Shoard and Chris Powell/Tony Coombes won two rubbers with David Burrell/Martin Davey recording the two rubbers for the visitors.

Andover Sports B are this season’s Division 2 champions.  They defeated Aldermaston 6/3 to complete their programme.  This result also leaves Aldermaston in second place to join their opponents in Division 1 next season.  In a high scoring encounter Peter Cowmeadow/Graham Woodrow scored a maximum for the winners supported by two rubbers from Nick Gladwin/Geriant Griffiths and one from Chris Clarke/Andy Kinge.  Each of the visiting pairs, Chris Apsey/Graham Page, David Lowe/Stephen Gaunt and Paul Roper/Lawrence Sutton won one rubber.  In another match in the same division Geriant Griffiths and Nick Gladwin were the only winners when Andover Sports C lost 8/1 when visiting Beechdown B.  Nigel Appleton/Nick Jones and Mark Bayliss/Tim Williams both scored maxima for the home side complemented by two from Bruce Scott/Chris Meeking.

The Division 3 match at Cranbourne school resulted in a 6/3 win for the home side.  Loddon led 6/2 and were 1 game up in the final match but lost the next two which gave Hurst the necessary point to take the top spot in the table.  Richard Burt/Phil Hood won their three rubbers fro Loddon supported by two from Steve Woodward/Mark Gentry and one from Mitchell Hockley/Matthew Hawkins.  David Ord/Dave Keep won one rubber for Hurst while Adam Jesney/Stephen Hartwell won two including that last vital one.  Alresford beat Whitchurch 8/1 at Alresford to take third place while keeping Whitchurch in the bottom spot.  Dave Cooley and Stuart Gordon won the sole loser’s rubber with Scott Page/Bob Thirkell and Marc Page/Ralph Pointer both winning maxima and Ted Dowson/John Read contributing the remaining two rubbers for Alresford.

Mixed Match Report 01/04/05  BH Pegasus B beat Beechdown B 8/1 at the Sports Centre to ensure top place in the Mixed Division 2 table.  Tony Ashworth/Ling Tan and Abdul Khan/Kim Newman won maxima for the winners supported by two rubbers from Andy Lang/Sue Lorrain.  The solitary visitor’s rubber was scored by Martin Webb/ Lynn Perrini.  Viking B had an 9/0 win over a two pair Firefly side which will now be relegated.  Chris Powell/Jane Hall, Graeme Berry/Ruth Seward and Tony Coombes/Diane Cooper were the three victorious pairs for Viking B who are now in second place in the table.  Beechdown B, who have to play Aldermaston away, and are only two points behind, could still beat them to the second promotion spot.

With two matches still remaining St Marys are sure of the 3rd Division trophy.  They recently defeated Beechdown C at Winchester Road 7/2 with Keith Vincent/Janine Fisher winning a maximum as did Mark Ferguson/Pam Norman supported by one from Philip Brooks/Andrea Farmer.  Mark Bayliss/Jan McDonald and Nick Jones/Clare Taylor won one rubber each for th losing home side.

With two cards in from Basing Cavalier matches, both recording 6/3 victories, the second place behind Waverley A in the division 4 table is now more open.  Against Beechdown D in late February a two pair Cavaliers team composed of Steve Gaunt/Judith Lillis and Andrew Dance/Sheila Weston beat Beechdown D 6/3 and again with only the same two pairs they beat Waverley B by the same score. Basing Cavaliers currently have a two point advantage over Waverley B with both teams still to play two matches to complete their programmes.  One of the Cavaliers matches is against Waverley A at Old Basing.  A good result here for Waverley A could really help the B side reach the second promotion spot.  Elsewhere in the division Waverley A emphasised their position in beating Sherpas B 8/1 at John Hunt School where Seth Ball and Eve Bielby were the only visiting winning pair.  Richard James/Sandra Jennings and Colin Huntley/Debbie Symes won maxima for the winners supported by two rubbers from Philip Quinn/Heather Mountford.

Inter County Championships 01/04/05 The County 3rd team completed a unbeaten season with an 13/2 victory over Dorset 3rds at Westgate on Sunday 19th March losing only one Mens Doubles and one Ladies Singles.  The second team were to have played Guernsey on the same day but received a walkover as the Guernsey team was fogbound on the island and was unable to travel
