Ladies Matches 24/01/08  There are no Ladies matches to report this week.

Mens Matches 24/01/08  A 6/3 victory against their own B side gave Viking Mens A the top position in Division 1.  Tim Cooper/Chris Powell won a maximum for the winners supported by two rubbers from Graeme Berry/Scott Wilkins and one from Tony Coombes/Ben Ansell.  Father and son, Carlo/Milo Rapacioli won two of the loser’s rubbers supplemented by one from Stuart Cheng/Simon Williamson. 

Steve Glover/James Skilton, Steve Tribe/Chris Pearson and Steve Harrison/Ray Chow were the successful BH Pegasus C side which defeated Firefly 9/0 in Division 2.  

Neil Marie/Tim Jefferies, Bruce Scott/Keith Dawson and Tim Williams/Simon Johnston comprised the strong Beechdown B team which had a home 9/0 victory over Whitchurch in Division 3 leaving them in the lead with 44 points from 6 matches.  Their nearest rivals, Aldermaston, are now only 7 points in arrears with a match in hand after beating Hurst 7/2 at Aldermaston.  Stephen Gaunt/Lawrence Sutton recorded a maximum for the winners supported by two rubbers each from Neil Hince/Michael Ling and Graham Page/David Lowe. 

 Mixed Matches 24/01/08   An 8/1 victory over their own B side left Beechdown A will clear of all their opponents in Mixed Division 2.  James Bartlett/Sandra Smith won the solitary rubber for the B team.  Neil Marie/Andrea Hill and Martin Webb/Hayley Kopp won maxima for the winners supplemented by two rubbers from Daniel Sheppard/Karen Southwell.  Milo Rapacioli/Diane Cooper and Ben Ansell/Ruth Cairns recorded maxima when Viking C beat BH Pegasus C 8/1 in the same division.  Neil Hodges and Sophia Rapacioli secured the remaining two rubbers for them.  Steve Glover partnered by Sally Holmes won the loser’s consolation rubber.  

Following a 9/0 defeat of Basing Cavaliers at the Sports Centre LoddonSherpas B now have a one point lead over their nearest rivals Aldermaston B in the Division 4 table. The latter also had a victory, this a close 5/4 win over Waverley B at Everest College.  Jamie Webb/Sandra Jennings, Mitchell Hockley/Eve Bielby and Keith Last/Liz Firth comprised the successful LoddonSherpas B side.  Rod Jenkins/Pippa Dines gave Aldermaston B a good start in their match by winning all three of their rubbers.  Neil Hince/Sally Jenkins and Graham Page/Lisa Apsey supplies one each to complete the scoring.  John Beattie/Jan McDonald won two of the loser’s rubbers with Peter Bevell/Chris Fowler and Colin Huntley/Heather Mountford supplying one each.

Knock-Out Cup 24/01/08   LoddonSherpas (+2) reached the second round of the Knock-Out Cup, in which they are at home to Beechdown (Scr) following a 290/271 victory over BH Pegasus (-3), The latter team were quickly at a disadvantage when Anu Davies was injured in the second game of her first Ladies Doubles match and was forced to concede that match and the other two in which she would have been playing.  BH Pegasus men won their three matches and also the two Mixed Doubles which were played but not by sufficient margins to overcome the losses in the Ladies matches.   In the one Ladies match which was played LoddonSherpas, Cheryl Matthews/Sue Evans were successful.  The other 1st round match resulted in win for Andover Sports (Scr) over St Marys (-3) at Newbury by 347 points to 283. Stronger ladies gave the visitors a good lead while the Mens matches were quite even. as were the three Mixed Doubles. 

In an early 2nd round match Aldermaston (+3) proved too strong for Waverley (+3) winning 344 points to 295.  Here again the visiting Ladies gained quite an advantage on points while both the Mens and Mixed matches were very close.
