Ladies Matches 13/04/07    A two pair Viking’s 5/4 defeat by Waverley means that BH Pegasus are now almost certain to take the Ladies 6 title They are 6 points ahead of Viking with both teams having only one match still to play.  Julie Shawley and Jane Halls won a treble for Viking in this crucial match with the fourth rubber coming from Diane Cooper/Ruth Cairns.  Debbie Symes/Chris Fowler and Caroline Rodbourne/Heather Mountford each won one rubber for Waverley.  Earlier both Andover Sports and LoddonSherpas faced each other at Andover with two pairs.  This match finished in a 4/0 victory for the home side.  Sandra McDonald/Pauline Prior and Sue Hartfield/Ellen Dennett each won their two rubbers.  Alison Rendall and Wendy Mason were the only winners for Phoenix when they went down 8/1 to Beechdown at Winchester Road.  Andrea Hill/Ruth Seward and Karen Southwell/Sandra Smith both won maxima for the home side supplemented by two rubbers from Sara Deed/Cathryn Perkins.


Mens Matches 13/04/07   An 8/1 home victory over Firefly in Mens Division 1 assures Andover Sports A of second place in the final table behind, almost certain winners Viking A, who only require 1 point from their final match against BH Pegasus A to take the title again.  Chris Clarke/Ian Swatton and Shaun McDonald/Emerson Cumberbatch won trebles for the winning home side supported by two rubbers from Tim Hunt/Andy Kinge.  

Division 2 leaders, BH Pegasus B, beat Phoenix A 6/3 at the Sports Centre and then later lost narrowly 5/4 to LoddonSherpas A at Cranbourne School.  In the 6/3 victory Steve Glover/Martin Hill won a maximum with Alex Groom/Andrew Bosworth contributing two rubbers and James Skilton/Ramsey Domloge one.  Jon Thomson/Greg Sudell won two rubbers for Phoenix A and Matthew Hawkins/Paul Verling got one.   Phil Hood and Ian Young kept a clean sheet for LoddonSherpas A in their 5/4 win with Richard Burt/Steve Woodward getting the other two rubbers.  Steve Glover/Dale Turpin won two of the loser’s four rubbers and Ramsey Domloge/James Skilton and Andrew Bosworth/Alex Groom won one each.  

Having completed their programme with a 8/1 home defeat of Whitchurch, BH Pegasus C are now Division 3 champions.  Mark Chapple/Karthik Srinivrrshan and Steve Tribe/Ray Chow won trebles in this victory supported by two rubbers from John Skilton/Jon Brooks. Peter Askew and Sean Mallard won the consolation rubber for Whitchurch.   Waverley currently in second place, beat Phoenix B 9/0    Their team was Adam Bridgen/Colin Huntley, Robert Jackson/Andrew Mountford and Ian Aherne/Richard Ford.


Mixed Matches 13/04/07   A 8/1 away win over a two pair LoddonSherpas A means that St Marys are just a few points away from the Mixed Division 1 title.  Ian Young and Stephanie Matthews won the sole rubber for the home side with Norman Ferguson/Margaret Mason and Andy King/Andrea Farmer both winning doubles for St Marys supplemented by one rubber from Tony Glinos/Frances Rayson.  Beechdown A were unable to field a team to play Andover sports A at Andover and were forced to concede the 9 points.

 
All six teams in Division 2 were in action with Aldermaston A beating Beechdown B 5/4 and Viking B recording the same score against leaders BH Pegasus B.  In this match Martin Hill/Lesley Acheson kept the loser’s hopes of gaining the top promotion spot alive by winning their three rubbers complimented by one from Prasanth Kumaran/Doreen Quilter. Carlo Rapacioli/Ruth Seward and Tony Coombes/Emma Day both won two rubbers for Viking B with Chris Powell/Julie Shawley supplying the vital fifth.  Glynn Libberton/Rhian Jenkins and Neil Hince/Sue Richardson won two rubbers each in their clash with Beechdown B at Aldermaston and David Lowe/Hannah Ward got the fifth.  Mark Bayliss/Madge Cummings won a maximum for the losers in this encounter with Martin Webb/Kate Appleton securing the remaining one.  Steve Webb and Traicy Tait won the two rubbers for a two pair Firefly team which lost 7/2 to BH Pegasus C in the same division.  Steve Glover/Haylie Fox won two rubbers for BH Pegasus C and Dale Turpin/Jean Deverill and Alex Groom/Jenny Skilton won one each.  

A 8/1 home win over LoddonSherpas B leaves Waverley B 2 points behind Andover in the Division 4 table. Both teams have completed their programme of matches but can be overtaken by Andover Sports B who with two matches still to play require only 7 points to win the division.. John Beattie/Sally Holmes and Milo Rapacioli/Sandra Jennings set up the victory by taking their three rubbers supplemented by two from Robert Jackson/Gill Trimmer.  Mike Powell/Liz Firth won the consolation rubber for LoddonSherpas B.  


County Inter-District KO Cup 13/04/07  The team to represent the Basingstoke & District League in the Hampshire County Inter-district Knock-Out Competition on Sunday 22nd April is Andrea Hill (Beechdown), Lesley Acheson & Hayley McCall (both BH Pegasus ) and Tim Cooper. James Bevis, Richard Whatley (all Viking).  The event commences at 10.00am in the Westgate Centre with League Chairman, Ruth Cairns in charge as usual.


Hampshire County 1st Team 13/04/07  Hampshire 1st team finished in sixth place with 42 points in the National League Division 1 table after quite a good weekends play at Milton Keynes.  They drew with both Leicestershire and Essex and only lost 6/4 to Avon. The County 2nd team, having won their division in the regional section, are now promoted to National League Division 2.
