Ladies Matches 07/01/08  Juliet MacAskill/Emma Day, Alison Crawford/Diane Cooper and Linda/Sophia Rapacioli made up the Viking team in the Ladies Division of 6 which beat Phoenix 9/0 at Sherfield School.   A couple of days earlier Andover Sports entertained LoddonSherpas in the same division and emerged 5/4 victors despite a treble from the visitor’s first pair, Stephanie/Cheryl Matthews.  Sue Evans and Becky Hall won the LoddonSherpas remaining rubber.  Pauline Prior/Sandra McDonald and Val Wheeler/Ellen Dennett both won two rubbers for the home team supported by one from Sue Hartfield/Liz Roberts.  

A 6/0 victory over visiting Beechdown has given BH Pegasus a clear lead in the Ladies Division of 4.  Anu Davies, Jenny Skilton, Doreen Quilter and Jean Deverill comprised the successful quartet


Mens Matches 07/01/08  A couple of cards received for matches played some time ago have changed the look of the Mens Division 1 table.   The first, for a match played in October, saw Viking A winning 9/0 against BH Pegasus B at the Sports Centre.  The victorious team was Tim Cooper/Chris Powell, Tony Coombes/Damon Short and Graeme Berry/Simon Williamson.  Later in early November Viking B also went to the Sports Centre and defeated the home B side 7/2. In this match Andrew Bosworth/Nick Reid and Kevin Harris/Veera Arunachalam won one rubber each for the beaten home team.  Carlo/Milo Rapacioli and Stuart Cheng/Simon Williamson scored maxima for Viking B with Neil Hodges/Scott Haddow supplying the seventh.  Tim Hunt/Damien Roberts and Emerson Cumberbatch/Shaun McDonald both won two rubbers when Andover Sports A beat Viking A 5/4 at Everest College.  Chris Clarke and Ian Swatton won the vital fifth for the visitors.  Tim Cooper and Chris Powell won their three rubbers for Viking A and the fourth was supplied by Scott Wilkins/Graeme Berry.  BH Pegasus B are still without a win having lost again, this time 5/4 at home to Andover Sports B for whom Peter sellers/Geriant Griffiths and Peter Cowmeadow/Paul Williams both won two rubbers complimented by one from Peter Hartfield/Daniel Pharoah.  These results leave Andover Sports A at the top of the table with 31 points from 5 matches with Viking A in second place with 29 points from 4 matches closely followed by Viking B with 26 from 5.  

Unbeaten Beechdown A in Division 2 just overcame LoddonSherpas A at Winchester Road 5/4 to equal their opponents with 33 points in the table.  The home victory was lead by a maximum from Daniel Sheppard/Martin Webb supported by two rubbers from Simon Johnson/Mark Bayliss.  Mark Gentry/Phil Hood recorded two rubbers for LoddonSherpas A with Mitchell Hockley/Jamie Webb and Ian/ Chris Young getting one each.  In the same division BH Pegasus C crept into third place with  a7/2 victory over Phoenix A.  Greg Sudell/Paul Nightingale won the loser’s two rubbers with Steve Glover/James Skilton leading the way for the winners with a treble supported by two rubbers each from Ray Chow/Steve Harrison and Mark Chappell/Chris Pearson.  

LoddonSherpas B just got the better of visiting Phoenix B in Division 3 winning 5/4.  Paul Bonner/Arjun Karnad won their three rubbers for the winners with Andy Long/Ricky Sewhee supplying the other two.  Bob Cosgrove and Tim Pink won two rubbers for Phoenix B with Mark Cleaver/Mark Fuller and Neil Clelland/Roy Gallie getting one each.


 Mixed Matches 07/01/08   The only match reported in Mixed Division 1 saw a good result for BH Pegasus B when they beat last season’s champions St Marys 6/3 at Basingstoke Sports Centre.  Each of the home pairs, Richard O’Kelly/Jenny Skilton, Kevin Harris/Kim Street and Martin Davey/Doreen Quilter won two rubbers.  Kevin Digweed/Rebecca McAgorous won two rubbers for St Marys complimented by one from Tony Glinos/Harriet Nicholls.  This result leaves BH Pegasus A in the lead with 28 points 8 ahead of St Marys and 12 above Viking A who have a match in hand.

Despite having only two pairs, Milo Rapacioli/Diane Cooper and Vince Yong/Ruth Cairns Viking C managed a 6/3 home win against LoddonSherpas A in Division 2. A few days later LoddonSherpas A beat Waverley A 7/2 at Everest College.  Ian Young/Cheryl Matthews and Keith Last/Sue Evans won maxima for the winners in this match with Phil Hood/Sandra Jennings supplying the seventh rubber.  Keith Miles/Gill Trimmer and Adam Bridgen/Jan McDonald won a rubber each for the losers.  

With only two pairs Firefly lost 5/4 to Phoenix A at Sherfield School in Division 3.  Both pairs, Phil/Sue Pike and Steve Webb/Sarah Corbett won two rubbers while Greg Sudell/Alison Rendall won two for Phoenix A. Later, again with only two pairs, Firefly went down 6/3 to visiting Beechdown C.  All three of the loser’s rubbers were won by Steve Webb and Sarah Corbett.  Each of the visiting pairs, Nick Jones/Leanne Francis, Tim Williams/Eve Nolan and Keith Dawson/Alex Nagie won one rubber.  Elsewhere in the division leaders Aldermaston A accounted for Andover Sports B with a 7/2 scoreline.  Chris Apsey/Sue Richardson set up the home victory by winning their three rubbers complimented by two each from Glynn Libberton/Sandra Page and Neil Hince/Rhian Jenkins.  Geriant Griffiths and Val Wheeler won the loser’s two rubbers.    

Phoenix B in Division 4 suffered two recent defeats. The first was a two pair 8/1 loss to second placed Aldermaston B and the second was a 9/0 defeat to give Basing Cavaliers.their first win of the season.  Against Aldermaston B Bob Cosgrove/Katie Hawkins won the solitary rubber with Graham Page/Lisa Apsey and Neil Hince/Sally Jenkins both winning two rubbers supported by one from Ben Coapes/Pippa Dines for the winners.  The successful Basing Cavaliers team in the other match against Phoenix B was Steve Gaunt/Linda Childs, Richard Dearman/Sheila Weston and Andrew Dance/Linda Russell.  Another match in the division saw LoddonSherpas B climb into second spot with a 7/2 home victory over Waverley B    Keith Last/Liz Firth won three rubbers for LoddonSherpas B with Jamie Webb/Sandra Jennings and Mitchell Hockley/Eve Bielby getting two each to complete the scoring.  Peter Bevell/Jan McDonald and Peter Aling/Heather Mountford won a rubber each for the losing visitors.
