Mens Matches 03/04/08  A 7/2 home win for Viking Mens A in Division 1 has left them as almost certain 2007/2008 champions. Their only remaining match this week is against Andover Sports A at Andover.  They only require 4 points from this fixture to top the table.  Andover Sports A side must win their other three matches with a 9/0 scoreline to make this closing fixture a testing one for both teams. Against BH Pegasus A Tony Coombes/Torben Wacholz recorded a maximum with Tim Cooper/Chris Powell and Graeme Berry/Milo Rapacioli chipping in with two rubbers each.  David Gough and Richard O’Kelly won the loser’s two rubbers.

Sean Mallard and Peter Cooke won their three rubbers for Whitchurch supported by two from Stuart Gordon/Peter Askew when their team beat Alresford 5/4 at Alresford in Division 3. Mark/Guy Webb won two rubbers for the losing home side with Ben Webb/Ted Dowson and Nigel Butcher/John Read contributing one each.  Hurst gained ground in the table by beating LoddonSherpas B 8/1 at the Sports Centre. Arjun Karnad/Paul Bonner won the solitary home rubber. Keith Lawrence/Chris Puxley and Mark Payne/Duncan Kenny scored maxima for Hurst supported by the other two rubbers form David Ord/Dave Keep

Mixed Matches 03/04/08   BH Pegasus Mixed A claimed the second trophy for their club this season by winning Division 1.  They won their penultimate match which was at home to Viking B, convincingly 8/1 to make sure that they could not be caught at the top of the table.  David Gough/Sue Lorrain and Steve Harrison/Anu Davies both scored maxima with Martin Hill/Amanda Marsden winning two rubbers to reach the eight rubbers.  Carlo Rapacioli/Madeline Graves recorded the solitary rubber for the losers.  Kevin Harris/Kim Street and  Richard O’Kelly/Jenny Skilton won one rubber each when BH Pegasus B lost 7/2 to St Marys in the same division.  Gareth Jones/Andrea Farmer and Peter Braithwaite/Janine Fisher each won three rubbers for the winners complimented by one each from Tony Glinos/Margaret Mason.  Andover Sports A had a narrow 5/4 victory over Viking A at Everest College.  Tim Cooper/Julie Shawley won two of the home side’s rubbers with the other two pairs, Tony Coombes/Juliet MacAskill and Chris Powell/Alison Crawford scoring one each.  Sean McDonald and Sue Hartfield won all three of their rubbers for the winners supported by one from Emerson Cumberbatch/Sandra McDonald and one from Damien Roberts/Pauline Prior.

Due to unfortunate circumstances at the last minute LoddonSherpas A were unable to field a team to face Beechdown B in Division 2 and were forced to concede the nine points.

Aldermaston A gained promotion from Division 3 following a close 5/4 home win against Phoenix A.  Chris Apsey/Sue Richardson set up the win by taking all their three rubbers supported by two from David Lowe/Hannah Ward.  Matthew Hawkins/Sam Taylor won two of the Phoenix A’s four rubbers complimented by one each from Greg Sudell/Alison Rendall and Paul Nightingale/Carolyn Neale.   Firefly were again only able to put out a two pair team when they lost 6/3 to Beechdown C at Winchester Road.  Steve Webb/Sarah Corbett won two of the loser’s rubbers with Phil/Sue Pike getting the third.  Tim Williams/Debbie Watkins won two rubbers for Beechdown C and Keith Dawson/Alex Nagel supplied the third.
